This is by far my least favourite time of the year.
1. It is the rainy season
2. The trees have all lost their leaves
3. THE TIME CHANGE!
Spring ahead – fall back. Bullshit – who ever heard of “fall back” – all of you of course however it still sucks.
The recent rains have turned my nice dry paddock into a soupy slippery mess! Navigating at 0600 with two “starving” 1100lb horses dancing around you in the pitch dark – were their hazard pay – I would surely qualify!!!
The trees look barren – like a post apocalyptic netherworld. The glorious fall colours are now laying all over the ground – oh and they are slippery too.
And last but most certainly not least – the dreaded time change! How I curse you “fall back” – you make my life miserable.
I can deal with the loss of the one hour of sleep as I really don’t require that much sleep but what I simply cannot abide is the driving into work in the dark AND driving home in the dark.
I have pretty much adapted to feeding in the dark in the morning – however now I will have to accomplish the same feat at night. Dealing once again with two “starving” 1100lb horses dancing around in the pitch dark. I swear I can hear “Lord of the Dance” whilst they prance waiting for me to fill their bucket with their precious rations.
This weekends task – stall doors!!! – lock them up – feed them – while I put out the hay – let ’em go and save my feet from getting tromped on.
Lighting in the barn – the outdoor lighting – my lantern and my funky hat with the built in lighting in brim – I need more lighting. I need to be able to see what is coming at me rather than rely on the sound of the “Lords” dancing up behind me!!!
It may sound like I am complaining – quite the contrary – I love everything about what I do each day – I love coming home to my little farm and seeing the “Lords” waiting for me -I love the smell of the hay and the stinky mucky paddock…
BUT…
I still HATE the time change.
