So – what a pleasant surprise this morning – the sun was coming up as I went out to feed the boys!
No more Lord of the Dance all over the place – the sun rising coupled with the new lighting made feeding this morning less of a chore and more of a “good morning guys – sleep well?”.
And what a treat – actually driving into work with the light beaming in my car window – and my GPS – Samantha – no longer on night vision mode – today was a great day!!! OR so I thought.
My day at work – the usual – blah blah blah – stress stress stress.
I mistakenly peaked out my office window about 430 and was like “Hey??? what the???” and then it hit me like a horse tail in the face – the sun is setting – It will be dark when I get home.
Keeping in mind I knew that when the time changed but by some freak of Mother Nature prayed that it would hold off until I get home and get everything done outside in the light.
No such luck – ahhh how the tables have turned. The morning mayhem has simply turned to nightly mayhem with prancing ponies – patiently waiting for their precious feed – did I mention they are starving?
It was fully dark when I arrived and there they were – waiting patiently for me to strip out of my work day wear to don my smelly work clothes and stumble through the dark – grain buckets in hand, wheel barrow at the ready, tripping over whatever rock I picked up yesterday that had migrated directly into my path while my 1100 lb beasties danced behind me.
Ding ding ding – dinner!!! – while they happily munched on the feed – I stumbled over to the hay storage – damn roots I forgot to dig up this past weekend and flung open the door and flipped the switch!
It was like a chorus of angels singing – AHHHHHH LIGHT!!!! The meagre 12 volt bulbs illuminating my path to salvation basking me in a glorious glow of battery powered goodness!!! Lights.
It’s the small things that make the biggest differences. The piddly little light that hubby so lovingly installed worked like a charm and I managed to get the fixin’s ready for the morning and all was quiet on the homestead.
Now – it’s dark at 6 pm – what the heck am I supposed to do until bed time – dinner done – kitchen cleaned. I am not a television watcher
I know – we’ll hook up the generator and move our hay around – make room for more.
Now all I have to do is break that news to hubby!!! I’ll make a nice dinner tomorrow and drop that bomb.
Keep you posted on his reaction – maybe the extra hour of sleep will soften the blow?!
