Kittens – Kittens – EVERYWHERE!!!

As a new found farmer girl – I know I have hit the “big time” when some idiot thinks it is OK to dump a litter of kittens on my property!!!

Playing on my sympathies as an animal lover- seeing a big barn knowing that everyone can always use a barn cat. Cat is much different than kitten people!!!

Cats are typically larger – tougher and wary – kittens are small helpless and curious.

So upon arriving home a little later than normal – I donned my trusty coverall and prepared this evenings feast for the boys. Grabbed my flash light – hit the flood lights and commence on my evening ritual of feeding the masses.

I had noted upon arriving home that my big tough quarter horse seemed reluctant to come get his ration of grain for his dinner.

That is when I heard it – MEOW!!! WTF? A cat?? in distress?? and streaking through my peripheral was a small animal.

Now I’ll take you to this morning when I saw a small creature running away from the house – not enough light to make out what it was – thinking it was a bunny – I thought to myself  – “cool – bunnies” Little did I know.

Low and behold – tough guy was afraid of the yowling kitten. Cool a kitten – crap a kitten. Another streak of fur – double crap – there is two of them.

I smiled – Cool!!! kittens – running to the house and flinging open the door – “CURTIS (my son) I found kittens” never seen that child move so fast – I digress. He grabs his coat and I a plate of cat food. With flashlights in hand we go looking for the (Aussie accent inserted here) “The elusive kitten – known to frequent shelters, back alleys and suckers homes for centuries” – meanwhile back in the paddock – the boys are getting antsy for hay.

I call hubby – “I found kittens come home fast – can’t talk” click – dial tone – I’ve spotted three now.

Rewind – “Curtis – wait here – have to feed the boys before they die of starvation ( yes yes I never feed them)”

Meanwhile – Curtis has spotted a fourth – Lord save me – four kittens!!!

We currently enjoy the company of 5 house cats – my clowder of cats (that is what a group of domestic felines is called – Google it). We simply cannot house any more cats. They sure are cute.

We will assess the genders tomorrow and start calling around shelters to house the little squibs.

In the meantime – anyone want a kitten???
