A Travelin" I will Go!!!

Occasionally – my job requires me to travel. I am not super keen on traveling in the first place and when I am away from home – I feel that the entire house will be reduced to a smoking crater as I am – of course – the only one who can keep the homestead running efficiently.

Essentially – I am a bit of a control freak. I like things done a certain way at a certain time and the way I say it be done – like I said – just a “bit”.

Tomorrow (Sunday) is my first “long” trip away since we moved. I am only gone 3 days but still – it’s enough to have my gut twisted in angst. Plus – I really hate to have to dump the load of running the farm on hubby. His job is brutal, physical and demanding and I know that he likes to relax when he gets home and has a hard time getting started in the morning.

So – to remedy this angst – I hired myself a student. Her name is Sarah. I first got in contact with her back in August when this whole farm life thing started to go in our direction. Sarah is an accomplished equestrian – comfortable around horses, is in school 5 minutes from here and best of all – relatively inexpensive. Trust me – it will be a small price to pay for peace of mind.

Sarah was out last night to get the official tour during feeding time. She commented on how much we have gotten done since her initial visit 8 weeks ago. She a nice young woman and I feel better about having to take a 3 day trek to Chicago.

HOWEVER…. I have written an epic novel of instructions on what to do if “this” happens or what to do if “that” happens – have written down every conceivable scenario adding cell phone numbers – vet numbers – farrier numbers and of course 911 is always there!

Hubby is getting annoyed – I can tell – “you worry too much” he says. “It will be fine” he says.

OK but when the train that runs past our house 5 kilometres away jumps the tracks and skids to our house – taking out the fence post thus disabling the electric fence and the boys jump said 6 foot fence to run out onto the highway and gallop merrily to the 416 into to downtown Ottawa to stop and have a drink at the local watering hole – that solution to that is on page 65!!!! and I’ll do that I told you so dance.
