A random missive this evening.
Wind chimes – every year for the past three years – or is it four – I cannot recall – we vacation in Ocracoke Island North Carolina.
While I am more spiritual than religious – it is truly God’s country.
Tucked away on the Outerbanks of North Carolina – a mere 22 hour drive from our home – actually closer by 40 minutes now that we have relocated…as soon as we hit highway NC 12 on the National Seashore – I can feel all the stress melting away.
And every year – I have bought a wind chime. Not one of those tinkle tinkle ones, they annoy the snot out of me, but the bamboo ones that make that “bong bong bong” sound. I have strategically placed them in trees around the house. When the wind blows – it reminds me that soon I will be back on my beloved island – eating at Eduardos Taco Truck – enjoying a meal of perfection at Dajio. Soaking up the sun on the beach by day and marvelling in ghost crabs by night and purchasing another wind Chime.
Kittens – only 3 left. Two females and one male. Scraps will be the keeper. She is fierce!!! At 5 months has already managed to take down a pigeon. She will surely keep the rodents away. I love her BUT not as much as I love Lila.
Lila – female number 2. Originally named Squibs after my beloved Squibee who I had to put down due to illness. I was inspired to rename her after my last trip to TO when a young mother with the most precarious yet well behaved child was sitting in the seat in front of me. That child’s name was Lila and watching and listening to her while the plane took off and to see her face looking out the window and just how sweet she was, prompted me to rename Squibs – Lila. We will take Lila to the SPCA as she truly deserves to have a young child fawn over her and be cherished.
Male number 1 – Orange. He is names Orange well because he is that colour. Hubs fell in love with him. Orange is the first cat to greet us when we pull in the yard. Smart as a whip and full of life.
Dry feet – my boots -after 3 months have FINALLY dried out!! For now until the thaw comes again – then I will complain of wet feet.
Mittens – they are my best friends. I have been sporting the same pair of fleece, fold down, gray mittens for 5 years!!! The gripper pads in the palms have long since worn away. I can fit two pair of insulated gloves underneath. They smell like barn, are covered in horse hair and if I ever lost them – my heart would break.
The wind is howling tonight. The boys are jumpy as a result of it. A cold front is moving in and snow squalls are making it near impossible to see a foot in front of you.
Please let this be the last blast. I can’t speak for everyone however as much as I love winter…I’m done…CHEQUE PLEASE!!!!
