I’ve been on vacay this past week – and I was really trying to “unplug” and for the most part successful.
My boss knows – if she needs me and texts or calls me – I am there.
I am not sure why I bother with a week off in April as the weather is typically shitty – this past week was no exception except for Wednesday – which was amazing!
We used to go South in April but running a farm has kept us pretty close to home.
It’s hard to get away when you have so many lives depending on you.
Like I said above – Wednesday – wow!!! sun glorious sun!!!
I cleaned chicken coops and sat outside – even got a wee bit of sun to which I thought nothing of until later that day.
Went to bed all chilled from sunburn and woke up the next day feeling like I had drunk a bottle of Pinot Noir.
Dehydrated you ass hat – I thought and powered through.
Until Thursday when I could not shake that craptacular feeling.
And then….it struck!!!
“Campylobacter is a bacteria that infects the intestinal tract, and very rarely can also infect the blood stream. When a person gets sick from this infection it is called campylobacteriosis”
I am my own worst enemy in this case. While I do practice good bio security – the rains of the past few days coupled with the fact that chickens and ducks are disgusting and dirty creatures – well – clearly it was not good enough.
No shit!! I could sell tickets to mud runs in my paddock!!! Surely I can bottle it and sell it as the next big face moisturizer?? No???
Soooo – no more eating sandwiches while mucking stalls (I’m not kidding – have totally done that) but not this week LOL!!! –
I am now back to somewhat small portions of very bland and boring foods – so no big Easter Feast here at Orange Acres – we will save that for when my stomach decides it likes food again.
Plus side – lost 4 lbs? Silver lining – silver lining.
And now – here I sit – last day of vacay.
Coops are clean and almost have all the carpet ripped up off the stairs – oh ya did that too.
Back to work tomorrow – road trip/work trip Tuesday/Wednesday and then OFF TO ITALY on May 4th for work!! (I’ll get in that later).
I do long for the sunny white beaches of Cuba – but that would cost a years supply of hay.
To jet away and leave it all behind and sit and worry the whole time I’m sure.
We chose our life on the farm – it has been our dream for years – perhaps with downsizing we will get there again – who knows.
Right now what I want is my stomach to settle – easy stomach – the sun to shine and this God forsaken rain to just stop already and a nice cup of tea.
(Good Lord I sound old!!!)
Happy Easter everyone!!
Early night for this old gal!!!
